The Met Gala is an event that has been happening since 1948, making it 73 years old. The Met Gala in short is an event that is used as a fundraiser to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in NYC. This year’s theme was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. This year’s Met Gala can be seen as a let down but a decent amount of good looks came from it and a decent amount of looks that definitely need revision.

The Nots-

Kim Petras-

Kim Petras arrived at the Met Gala wearing an original Collinda Strada dress. This look was very questionable. It wasn’t really flattering. The silhouette was very strange and did not match the look itself. The skirt was confusing, the cut of it seemed like an afterthought. The fabric of the skirt was fine but should’ve color matched the main piece of the look, the horse, a lot better. The best part of the look overall is the hair and makeup, they both matched the look pretty well but the blue eye shadow seemed like a grasp. Overall it’s pretty well made and does look good but it didn’t really fit the theme at first glance and had a lot of technical issues that are visible.

Dixie D´amelio-

This was another non flattering look. It seemed more to be grasping for straws to make it look chic but it added way too much. It’s a simple black dress with elbow high gloves and a large hat with feathers. The feathers looked very dehydrated, but it’s not the worst part. The cut was nice but she seemed very uncomfortable, grabbing at the bottom and seeming to pull it down. The length could’ve been longer, which probably would’ve helped boost her confidence. The silhouette wasn’t great either, it looked like a feather duster. The gloves added too much and the shoes didn’t seem to match. For her first Met Gala it’s an okay look and it is well made but it’s confusing and doesn’t fit the theme just by glancing at it.

Kim Kardashian-

Probably the most hated look of this year’s Gala. It wasn’t horrible but it was pretty bad. A lot of seams were visible in this look, especially in the mask. That’s what ruined the entire look. It was also awkwardly put together. It looked like leggings, a T-shirt with a train, and a mask.The body suit looked like the solo colored Halloween costumes, the rest of the garment looked like a rough material resembling a graphic t-shirt. The only part that most people can really get behind is the mid-ponytail.

The Hots-

Anok Yai-

An uncommon choice of the night. It’s simple but elegant without being over accessorized. The material looks great on her and has a nice contrast between the fabric and the stars/moons. The jewelry isn’t over the top, it compliments the garment. The feathers don’t look dehydrated and are well placed along with the flow of her body. The styling and the little amount of makeup was a good choice. Overall not too many visible flaws so it’s definitely one of the best.

MJ Rodriguez-

MJ Rodriguez arrived at the Met Gala wearing an original Thom Browne garment. This is one of the most interesting silhouettes of the night. The over sized button down and pleated skirt with a corset really sold the look. The material looked great on every part of the garment. The pleats on the skirt are to a T. The illusion of it being a suit, with the dress-shoe heels and dress socks is what really makes this garment. The garment is made well and has a great approach so it’s one of my favorites of the night.

Kendall Jenner-

Probably the most favored of the night, it’s elevated and elegant. Kendall usually doesn’t disappoint when it comes to this event, this is a great example of her not disappointing. No seams are visible, already a plus. The diamonds really help this look. They don´t look out of place, picking a stone that can match the flow of a body was smart on the designers part. A simple bun also helps, having a simple hair style doesn’t take eyes away from the garment. The nude illusion was really done well, from afar you can’t see her undergarments and it looks like her skin tone is the natural color of the dress. Overall probably one of the best, if not the best looks of the night.

This Met Gala was definitely not one of the best but it can be seen to have some amazing garments. Designers are really shown on this night by having the chance to show off their hard work on multiple celebrity clients. This article’s purpose is to bring eyes on the event and give objective criticism to the garments.
