Welcome students and staff. We have some interesting new teachers we think you would like to meet.

Although this past school year was an interesting one, Carolina has a new group of optimistic and interesting faculty members that will help make this year a success. I had the opportunity to speak to a few of these new teachers and they gave me the “lowdown” on what they have to offer Carolina this year.

I interviewed Ms. Stone, a Special Education teacher and she had a lot of great things to say about Carolina. Mrs. Stone’s first weeks at Carolina have left her with the impression that this school has an amazing setting, caring teachers, and thoughtful students. Ms. Stone believes that the students here respect the atmosphere and genuinely want to be here. When asked about one of the first lessons that Ms. Stone learned at Carolina, she states that she would need to be flexible and patient. “I think the first week was chaotic but I think that we were supposed to go through that for a reason, to get prepared for what’s coming next.” Ms.Stone is really looking forward to seeing many firsts this year. She loves the diversity and culture within the students and really looks forward to getting to know new people.

I also got the chance to interview one of our first-year teachers Ms.Santana, an English III teacher. She gave me some unexpected but humorous answers. Ms.Santana is really enjoying Carolina so far, she loves how we operate differently compared to other schools. She also believes the instructional coaches are so helpful and a huge benefit for the school. As we know, the pandemic affected all of us in many different ways, Including Ms.Santana. She was still learning just like us. She was a student-teacher when covid hit and similarly to all of us she had a difficult time learning and adjusting but she claims it was “worth wild!”.  If we do ever have to switch to E-learning again you can look forward to seeing Ms.Santana all dressed up in her cow onesie teaching us English.

Last but certainly not least I interviewed one of our new instructional coaches, Mrs.Scott. When asked why she pursued teaching, Mrs.Scott answered that she had an amazing teacher who encouraged her as well as let her teach others. She states,” getting that rush and understanding of it is amazing.” Mrs.Scott also looks forward to getting to know everyone, students and staff. She really enjoys hearing about others’ dreams, pasts, and goals. Compared to her past experiences Mrs.Scott thinks Carolina has a strong community and a tangibly different culture. She also recognizes the students’ respect for their environment.

As a ninth-grader, interviewing these teachers gave me a whole new outlook on Carolina. I can tell they all are really passionate about their work and the well-being of the students here. Also, I never knew they admired how different we all are and that they really want to get to know us. It was a delight to get to know these new teachers and I encourage you to do the same!
