In this issue of the Trojan report, we wanted to cover a very serious topic, which is Covid-19. We all want to help protect our community, but what precisely do we need to do? Obviously, we follow our school and jobs protocol, but more things can stop the spread. Carolina High School has had over 50 cases in total. Though it is a challenging topic, to stop the increase, we must follow specific covid regulations that have been released through the CDC.

I had the opportunity to speak with the school nurse, Mrs. Angela Russell-Hendricks, who offered some tips for students and faculty on stopping the spread of Covid-19. When asked what the first thing she would recommend to the community is, she said to wear a mask, and while wearing a mask, students should stay six feet apart if possible. However, because we’re in a school environment, three feet will suffice. Outside of this, nurse Russell also advised students to make sure they continually wash their hands. She also stated that staying home while you’re sick or staying home when you’ve been in contact with someone who has covid will prevent you from spreading it in a crowded place like school. Her last recommendation was to get vaccinated if you can; if you can’t, that is fine, but be extra careful.

Other than that, we also conversed about her feelings about school during covid. When asked how she feels about doing in-person school, she stated that she was here and thinks it will help students learn as long as we follow all covid rules and regulations. When asked how she felt about our school’s covid system, she said she felt safe just as long as everyone followed it.

So to quickly summarize, it is essential to follow the rules and regulations of covid. These include washing hands, wearing a mask, etc. Let’s make sure that we are doing what’s best to protect you and those around you.
